Pure Flix has sure been a lifesaver in our family this year. We love watching new Christian TV shows & movies in our home but finding those on cable is hard to come by. Recently, I was given the chance to watch a new show that is now airing on Pure Flix, “Going Home.” Episode 5, Box Full of Letters was about learning how to deal with death and losing a loved one.

A Little About the Episode

This episode was tough for me to watch but it was also a little encouraging as well. A new client has arrived at the center and she is only a teenager. She is suffering from the same disease that her father passed away from, Juvenile Huntington’s Disease. When she arrived to the Hospice center she was unresponsive and her mom Sadie couldn’t stand that she was watching her daughter, Steph go through the same thing her husband did. Steph decided that before she would become unresponsive and unable to communicate with her mom, she wrote a box full of letters. Each letter was in an envelope and had something written on the front to help her mom go through this. Another patient Katherine is in the care of her best friend from college who is a hospice nurse. She too is getting ready to pass away and to help with the grief of her husband, Alec, he is trying to keep her plants alive. Their kids are also having a difficult time leaving her side, thinking that she will pass when their not there. Charley who is the hospice nurse has so much to do between these two families, yet she finds enough time in her day to share the special moments with them.

My Thoughts on the Episode

After seeing both of my grandmas on hospice care, I always thought I wanted to go into that field. But I am not the one who can control my crying. My grandma passed away in December 2020 and I still deal with grief. We also recently lost Olivia’s dog and the grief we have had has been hard. I know that God puts these difficult moments in our lives because he knows we are stronger than we know. I have learned to keep listening for God as he leads me to do the right thing in my life. The verse that really spoke to me after watching this episode was

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. – Matthew 18:20 (NIV)

I have learned to lean on him more and more with each passing day knowing that I am not the only person going through this hard time. I will continue to read more in the Bible each day and continue to pray for those in need. No matter what happens in our lives, we must remember to stay true to our faith.

God has worked in so many different ways in my life since the passing of my grandma and Luna. He has opened my eyes and my heart to know that not everyone will grieve the same. I truly believe that this show “Going Home” was put into my life for a reason. I may not know that reason right now, but I know that it can help anyone who is looking for a peacemaker and a blessing to others.
