Homeschool Life

One of the best decisions that we could have ever made was to homeschool Olivia. Back when we first started we were using BJU Curriculum and it seemed to help Olivia grow. I loved how the material was written and how it held the values that we were already teaching her at home. When 7th grade came around we decided to enroll her into a private Christian Academy, but that just didn’t work out for her. After having some issues with the staff we brought her home and decided to do Abeka Academy via the DVD’s. She did great until we got to high school where she struggled or so we thought.

This year we decided to give BJU another try and she loves it. They have their own distance learning and we chose to get the DVD’s too. It’s like Olivia is doing a 1 on 1 session with the teachers and she seems to be more focused. Even though she has more work to complete with each class, she loves it. We too love it because we are doing several things in addition to her regular classes. We also decided to do a pretest with her using the TerraNova tests and she passed with flying colors. I have to say that we will not do the Woodcock Johnson III test again because it kept saying that she was on 5th grade level for math. That is not the case. Olivia understands Math and she is just like me when it comes to test taking. If anyone is staring at me, I do horrible. Other than that she is definitely on grade level since we did the TerraNova test and we will continue to use that one and Stanford 10 tests from now on.
