We have a slight Dilemma..Help!

Recently Olivia has become potty trained and going “Pee” in the potty. We have one slight dilemma now that we are in need of help here. Olivia refuses to go “poop” in the toilet. We have tried bribing her which in turn makes things worse, tried offering her rewards saying that she’s a big girl if she goes in the potty or just forcing her to sit on when she comes and tells us her “Tummy Hurts”. Now none of this is working and we need help because she is messing up her pretty undies every day and even daycare has made mention of this. She won’t even tell us when she has to go or if she does tell us its way too late. She had an accident all weekend and now I’m just confused of what to do now? If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on how to handle this situation please leave a comment.

  • We had Abby undie-less at all times at home. If she was naked she was less inclined to just “go”. She would hold it until the last possible second, and then she would run to the potty. It’s scary to poop when there’s nothing to catch it. 🙂

  • That is a good idea that is mentioned above. I would be scared though that she would poop somewhere in the house though. And it won’t help at day care. While I have no real advice, I’m sure you know that 3 is the average age for potty training and that this is really NORMAL. I’ve talked to several moms lately who are having the same dilemma. My advice is to go back to Pull-ups or diapers or whatever so that when she has an accident it’s not the end of the world. Some kids are just not ready at a specific age and if it’s stressing you out and making her feel disappointed in herself, then maybe you need to make it not an issue for a while and revisit when she’s ready. If you put her back in a diaper (like a baby) she’ll probably protest and that within itself could inspire her to go on the potty. If she doesn’t care either way, then she’s probably not ready anyway. These are just my opnions. I don’t know Livy too well. Good Luck!

The only other idea I can come up with is to pay attention and see if there is a particular time of day that she goes poop. Like Xander always goes after lunch. Maybe if you can narrow the time down, you can make her sit on the potty specifically during that time. Or if she has an accident, make her look in her panties and see how gross it is. Then dump/clean the panties in the toilet to reinforce that poop goes in THERE not in HERE! That has worked for me in the past.

  • My now 3 year old was like that. She finally just went on her own. I was sure she’d never go in the potty for #2 but she did after months of being potty trained for #1

  • Ok good. I’m so glad that its not just my child who won’t go in the potty. She is fully potty trained in going #1 but now we just have to wait and be patient with her having to go #2.
