A New Diet For Me

IMG_0191

Recently I’ve been having a lot of allergic reactions to different kinds of foods and so I finally went and had them checked out. So this morning I went to a local allergist/immunologist to be tested. He went over the items that he was going to test me for and today it was only foods. The allergist tested me for 126 different foods and it’s amazing how many I was really allergic to. Well with this being said I have to change my diet big time to accommodate my newly found allergies. So starting this weekend I will begin an Egg-Free, Wheat-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Nut-Free and Beef-Free diet. Yes, I’m allergic to Eggs, Wheat, Dairy, Soy, Nuts, Beef (what?), Dill, Rice, Pepperoni, Kiwi, Peanuts, and Sausage. Well those are the main ones that I’m not allowed to eat. The other ones are minor ones like Licorice (ok that’s a bad one but I don’t eat it anyways), Oranges, Apples, Lima Beans, Corn, Green Peas, and a few more. But I can have them until I have a reaction. Crazy Huh?

So this is going to be a little more difficult than I thought because I just went grocery shopping last night and now realized I can’t have most of the items I purchased. What in the world am I going to do? Some of the allergies could cause me to have to use an epi-pen which is something that you don’t want to use because you jab it into your thigh, hard! and then have to head to the ER. Not fun at all. But I guess I will have to be extra careful. Now I have a major question for you all. Do you all know someone or maybe you’re on a similar diet that you might be able to share some recipes with me. I went to the library today and picked out some books but the recipes ask for some certain things that honestly I don’t think our local grocery stores have. Well off to figure out what I can have for dinner. Oh joy!

  • Shopping at a regular grocery store may be out of the question. It’s impossible to find allergy food at regular stores. Try finding a health food store- Whole Foods or similar. There are many gluten, soy, dairy, egg free products out there. Also, eating a more veggie diet based on rice and quinoa will make planning meals easier. I’ve been done this road many times with Abby.

  • Ah, you are allergic to rice. There’s quinoa noodles and quinoa. Bread substitutes might be out the question since they are mostly rice based. Soy is Very hard to cut out because it comes in MANY forms, and isn’t always listed as soy.
